Big Data on Medical Treatment and Clinical Medicine
This collection invites research on what data-intensive methods yield in medicine and in the delivery of care — the data such work operates on, the methods applied to it, and what the results support. Contributions may be methodological, systems-level, observational or applied, and established methods are welcome where the contribution is substantive.

Submissions are made through the journal's usual routes and are reviewed under the journal's usual process. Before submitting, confirm with the editorial office that the collection is still open and what article processing charge applies to it.

How a special issue is run here
The same review, the same decisions
Review
Unchanged by the collection
A manuscript submitted to a special issue goes through the same screening and the same review as any other. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Decisions
Made on the work
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. Being part of a collection is not a commitment to publish, and decisions remain independent of fees, services, memberships, and editorial roles.
Guest editors
Handled independently
A guest editor shapes the call and advises on reviewers. Their own submissions, and any manuscript where a conflict exists, are handled by another editor, and the journal's editors remain responsible for the final decision.
Propose a special issue
Journal of Big Data Research welcomes proposals for focused collections that address important questions across the methods, systems, and analysis of data at scale. Researchers with relevant expertise are invited to review the requirements below and contact the editorial office.
A proposal that can be assessed quickly states the question, why a collection rather than individual papers serves it, and who would guest edit. The editorial office responds with the journal's terms and, where a collection is agreed, the arrangements for running it.
What a proposal contains
- The question
- A title and a paragraph on the problem the collection addresses and why it is timely.
- Fit
- How the collection sits within the journal's scope, and what kinds of contribution it would draw.
- Guest editors
- Names, affiliations, ORCID iDs and a short statement of relevant expertise for each.
- Interests
- Any commercial, institutional or personal interest connected with the topic, so it can be considered at the outset.
Submitting to a collection
Prepare the manuscript as you would for any submission, and name the collection in your covering letter so it reaches the right editor. Regular submissions are accepted throughout the year, whether or not a collection is open.
