What the board is responsible for
The editorial board oversees assessment and the selection of reviewers with relevant expertise. All submissions undergo initial editorial screening; manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review, normally by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Reviewers assess the contribution a manuscript claims and the evidence supporting it. Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal, and remain independent of fees, services, memberships, and editorial roles.
Editors recuse themselves from decisions on their own submissions; those manuscripts are handled independently. The editorial policies set out the full procedure, and the editor guidelines state what the role involves.
