The three routes

Primary route

The journal's manuscript system. It tracks the submission through review, holds the correspondence with the editors, and is where you upload revisions. Use it where you can; it gives you the fullest view of where your manuscript has got to.

Alternative route
JBR submission form
A shorter form that opens with Journal of Big Data Research already selected, so the manuscript reaches this journal. Use it where a full account is inconvenient, or where you are submitting a single manuscript.

Assisted route

Write to the editorial office with the manuscript attached and it will submit on your behalf. This route exists so that a technical problem or an unfamiliar system never stands between the work and its review.
Authors must use only one submission route for the same manuscript.

Before you send it
The checklist below is what an editor looks for at screening. A manuscript that meets it moves to review without a round trip; the Instructions for Authors set out each item in full.
- The work fits the scope, and you can say in a sentence what it operates on and what it contributes
- Title page with all authors, affiliations, ORCID iDs and the corresponding author
- Abstract and four to six keywords
- A data-availability statement, for empirical work
- Methods described reproducibly, with parameters and the environment where performance is claimed
- Ethical approval, consent and trial registration reported where they apply
- Declarations: funding, competing interests, author contributions, and any use of generative AI tools
- References in one style, with DOIs
- Figures at the required resolution and tables in editable form
- An anonymized manuscript file, if you are requesting double-blind review
What it costs
- To submit
- Nothing. There is no submission fee and no review fee.
- On acceptance
- The article processing charge is USD 2,440, raised only after a manuscript has been accepted. The charges page states what it covers and the withdrawal policy.
- Billing questions
- Write to the editorial office before submitting if an invoice or institutional arrangement is needed.

What happens to the manuscript
First
Editorial screening
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review. Where something required is missing, the editorial office says what it is and invites you to resubmit.
Then
Independent review
Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts, chosen for the contribution the manuscript makes. Reviewers assess the contribution claimed and the evidence supporting it.
Finally
The decision
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal, and remain independent of fees, services, memberships, and editorial roles. You receive the reviewers' comments with the decision.
Your details, and where to ask
Contact details supplied with a submission are used to correspond about the manuscript and, on publication, to identify the authors of the article. The publisher's privacy statement sets out how personal information is handled.
Manuscripts and reviews are treated as confidential documents throughout the process, as the editorial policies set out.
