Gate I
Confirm manuscript fit before opening the portal
The primary contribution must be ophthalmic, not merely supported by an eye image, a visual dataset or an incidental ocular finding.
The main research question concerns eye disease, visual function, ophthalmic diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, prevention or delivery of eye care.
The design, comparators, outcomes, imaging and statistical methods are appropriate to the ophthalmic question.
Technical or interdisciplinary work is validated in an ophthalmic context and does not function as generic software, engineering or product promotion.
Review the Aims & Scope or contact the editorial office before submission. A scope enquiry is not editorial approval and does not predict a decision.
Gate II
Assemble the files and declarations
Use consistent file names and make sure every figure, table and supplement is cited in the manuscript.
Main manuscript
Title page, abstract, text, references, tables or table callouts, figure callouts and required declarations.
Figures and captions
Source-quality ophthalmic images with legible labels, units, acquisition details and captions that explain what is shown.
Supplementary material
Protocols, datasets, analysis plans, videos or additional imaging that supports interpretation and is cited in the manuscript.
Cover letter
A concise statement of scope fit, originality, related work or preprints, and any clinically sensitive material requiring attention.
Required where applicable
- Author names, affiliations, corresponding-author details and available ORCID iDs
- Contributor roles, funding and competing interests
- Institutional ethics approval and informed consent
- Written publication consent for identifiable periocular or facial images
- Prospective public clinical-trial registration
- Data and materials availability statement

Gate III
Create one complete submission record
Choose one approved route for the manuscript: primary, alternative or assisted. Do not create duplicate records through multiple routes.
Article category
Choose Research Article, Review Article, Case Report, Short Communication or Clinical Case Images.
A surgical technique should use the category that matches its evidence. Earlier archive records may call a concise communication In Brief.
Review the Instructions for Authors before uploading.
- Create or use the author’s own secure ManuscriptZone account.
- Select the Journal of Ophthalmic Science and the matching article category.
- Enter author and affiliation data exactly as they should appear in the publication record.
- Upload the manuscript, figures, supplements and required supporting documents.

- Retain the assigned manuscript identifier for correspondence and revision.
Primary: ManuscriptZone · Alternative: simple manuscript submission form · Assisted: info@openaccesspub.org. Use only one route.
A manuscript must not be under consideration by another journal at the same time. Disclose related manuscripts and preprints. Incomplete, duplicate or out-of-scope submissions may be returned before external review.
Editorial route
What happens after submission
No unverified first-decision or publication timeline is promised. Status changes and requests are recorded in ManuscriptZone.
Administrative completeness, file readability and required declarations are reviewed.
An editor assesses scope, ethics, integrity and suitability for external review.
Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent ophthalmology specialists.
If revision is invited, authors respond point by point and upload a revised manuscript.
The responsible editor evaluates the manuscript and reviews. Acceptance is never guaranteed.
The editorial office confirms production steps and issues the applicable APC invoice. Payment does not influence peer review or the editorial decision. Authors review proofs for author details, numerical values, image labels, links and supplementary files.
