Who publishes the journal

The journal is published by Open Access Pub, which operates the publishing platform, registers every article with Crossref and meets the journal’s production costs from the article processing charge.

The publisher takes no part in the assessment of manuscripts. Editorial decisions are based on scope, scholarly quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality and research integrity. The article processing charge is invoiced only after acceptance. As the editorial policies state, commercial considerations — charges, memberships and sponsorship — never influence acceptance decisions.

When the journal started

The ISSN International Centre’s confirmed record for ISSN 2576-6694 is based on Volume 1, Issue 1 of 2017 and identifies JBBS as an online journal. The journal’s first article was published in October 2017. Published articles receive a DOI under the prefix 10.14302/issn.2576-6694.

16 October 2017 First article published, in Volume 1, Issue 1
6 February 2018 Crossref registration opens with a first deposit of seven articles
9 February 2026 Most recent article published, in Volume 3, Issue 2

How the journal publishes

The journal does not publish to a calendar. Each article is published on its own date as soon as production is complete, and articles are then grouped into numbered issues; an issue closes when it is full rather than at the end of a period. Seven of the journal’s ten issues contain exactly four articles.

All content is open access from the moment of publication. There is no subscription, no embargo and no reader paywall, and authors retain copyright in their own work. The copyright and license page sets out what that permits.

Who makes editorial decisions

Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally assessed by two to three independent reviewers. The handling editor considers the reports and makes the editorial decision. The board is an Editor-in-Chief and 23 editorial board members, all currently serving, and is listed in full on the editorial board page. Editors and reviewers are required to declare competing interests and to recuse themselves from any manuscript where one exists.

Authors may submit a reasoned appeal or a complaint about editorial conduct, peer review or publication ethics. Where practicable, an appeal is reviewed by an editor who was not involved in the original decision. These routes, and the ethics, consent, biosafety and data-availability requirements that sit behind them, are set out in the editorial policies.

Relevant areas include medical and pharmaceutical biotechnology, microbial and environmental biotechnology, cell and gene therapy, immunotechnology, synthetic and systems biology, genomics and bioinformatics, regenerative medicine, biomanufacturing, biomedical engineering, biosensors, drug discovery and delivery, and translational biomedical research.
