The invitation
Work the editors would like to see
Regular submissions are accepted throughout the year.
The journal is general rather than specialized, which means a manuscript is read here by editors who expect the whole range of zoology to arrive. A physiological study and a species description are handled by the same board, each assessed on the terms its own design sets.
Work that is often difficult to place elsewhere is welcome here on the same terms as everything else: careful descriptive and observational studies, taxonomic revisions, methods papers, replications, negative and inconclusive results reported honestly, and work on invertebrates and on species that attract less attention than they merit. The journal is interested in what the study investigates, not in how fashionable its subject is.
Where a manuscript fits
Subject areas
A manuscript is within scope when it addresses a substantive question about animal biology or develops or evaluates a method for zoological research.
- Physiology and development
- Morphology, anatomy and systematics
- Behavior and ecology
- Genetics, cell and molecular biology
- Animal health, parasitology and welfare
- Nutrition and feeding biology
- Methods, instrumentation and analysis
The full statement, with the fit test and the boundary, is on aims and scope. Authors unsure whether a study fits are welcome to write to the editorial office with the title, abstract and keywords before preparing a submission.
