A decision in about three weeks

We aim for a first decision in about three weeks, peer review is Single-blind (double-blind on request), so your work is not sitting in a queue for months while the field moves on.

One fee, nothing bolted on

No submission, page or colour charges added at the end. The figure you see is the figure you pay.

Open access, and you keep copyright

Immediate worldwide open access under CC BY 4.0, a permanent Crossref DOI, and you keep copyright. Your work stays findable and reusable.

Why the fee is defensible

What your $2,100 actually buys

You are paying for speed, accountability and a permanent, discoverable record, the things that move your work forward, not for hosting a PDF.

  • A first decision in about three weeks, signed by a named editor in your field (see the editorial board).
  • Immediate, worldwide open access under CC BY 4.0, with copyright retained by you.
  • A permanent Crossref DOI, discoverable in Google Scholar and OpenAlex.
  • Professional copyediting, typesetting and proofs.

And a record the wider literature builds on: JNRT research is cited in journals and books from Springer Nature, Elsevier, Frontiers, Taylor & Francis and World Scientific.

No surprises: how JNRT charges

Nothing to submit

Submission and peer review are free. You are never asked for money to have your work considered.

Pay only on acceptance

The APC of $2,100 is invoiced after an accept decision and before publication. Rejected manuscripts are never charged.

One all-inclusive fee

No page charges, no colour charges, no hidden extras, and every paper gets Single-blind (double-blind on request) peer review.

For institutions and funded researchers

Billing your institution or funder

We invoice institutions and funders directly and accept purchase orders, with an itemised invoice suitable for grant and procurement records. Immediate, embargo-free CC BY 4.0 deposit lets you meet common open-access funding conditions.

Request an invoice or quote

If cost is a barrier

Fee waivers and reductions

Decisions never depend on ability to pay. We want capable neurology research published regardless of budget, so if cost is a barrier, tell the editorial office before or at submission.

Financial hardship

Considered case-by-case where research funding genuinely is not available. Editorial decisions never depend on ability to pay.

Institutional agreements

Negotiated rates and direct billing for partner institutions and consortia.

Student-led research

Reduced rates for bona fide student-led neurology projects.

To request a waiver or reduced rate, email info@openaccesspub.org with your manuscript title and a brief note on your circumstances. Waivers are considered by exception; there is no standing or recurring discount.

Withdrawal and refunds

Free to withdraw before a decision

A clear policy, so you know exactly where you stand before you commit a budget.

  • If we do not accept your manuscript, there is no charge. You are never charged for a manuscript that is not accepted. The APC applies only to accepted papers.
  • Free to withdraw before an editorial decision. If you decide JNRT is not the right home for your work before a decision is made, you can withdraw at no cost. There is no withdrawal fee.
  • Always withdraw formally first. Submitting the same manuscript to another journal without an official withdrawal is dual submission, a form of research misconduct under our editorial policies.
  • Duplicate or mistaken charges are refunded in full. Any payment taken in error is returned in full.
  • After publication. A published article is permanently open access under CC BY 4.0 and cannot be un-published, so the APC is non-refundable once your article is live. Any subsequent concern is handled under our corrections and retractions policy.
Questions

Article processing charges: FAQ

Straight answers on fees, timing, waivers and what the charge includes.

What if my manuscript is rejected?
You pay nothing, at any stage. Because the APC is charged only on acceptance, a manuscript that is not accepted carries no charge at any point.
When is the APC charged?
Only after a manuscript is accepted, and before final publication. Nothing is charged during submission or peer review.
Are there any hidden or extra charges?
No. There are no submission, page or colour charges. The $2,100 is the single, all-inclusive fee, and colour figures are published online at no extra cost.
Can my institution or funder pay directly?
Yes. We accept institutional purchase orders and can arrange direct billing to universities, research organisations and funders. An itemised invoice suitable for grant and procurement records is provided.
Can I withdraw my manuscript, and is there a charge?
Yes, free of charge, any time before an editorial decision. The APC applies only to accepted papers, so there is nothing to pay if you withdraw beforehand. Always withdraw formally first: submitting the same manuscript elsewhere without an official withdrawal is dual submission, a form of research misconduct.
Are fee waivers or discounts available?
Yes, by exception, for genuine financial hardship and bona fide student-led research, and we negotiate institutional rates. There is no standing or recurring discount, and decisions never depend on ability to pay.
How much is the APC?
A single charge of $2,100 applies to all article types: original research, reviews, case reports, short communications and brief reports. It is a one-time charge on acceptance, in US dollars.
What does the APC pay for?
Peer-review management and a decision signed by a named editor, professional copyediting and typesetting, a permanent Crossref DOI, XML and PDF production with standards-based metadata, CC BY 4.0 open-access publication, and discoverability in Google Scholar and OpenAlex.
Who owns the copyright after publication?
You do. Articles are published open access under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0) licence. Authors retain copyright, and readers may share and reuse the work with attribution.
How long until a decision?
We aim for a first decision in about three weeks. Every manuscript receives Single-blind (double-blind on request) peer review by at least two independent experts.
